Organizer

Based in Park Ridge, IL

Teamsters Local 700 is a premier labor organization in Park Ridge, Illinois. Local 700 represents and protects the rights of over 10,000 hard-working men and women in public sector jobs across the State of Illinois.

Teamsters Local 700 works in concert with Joint Council 25 with all of our organizing targets. We implement the Teamsters organizing program in the field; including, but not limited to, the following factors: probing, prepping, establishing first contact, list building, assessing support, house visiting, committee building, planning, implementing job actions and conducting research. Responsibilities may vary according to the needs of an organizing campaign, and/or the department’s priorities. The position of Local 700 Organizer may require travel throughout the State of Illinois This is not a traditional full-time position with regular working hours. Candidates should have flexibility in their schedules and a willingness to work extended/varying hours, including weekends and holidays.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITITES

• Maintains complete lists and records in all phases of a organizing campaign.
• Builds community support for campaigns.
• Assists in filing of election petitions, Unfair Labor Practice charges and negotiations of stipulated election agreements.
• Runs effective committee meetings.
• Oversees the assessment of every unit member involved in a campaign.
• Identify and recruit campaign leaders.
• Assists in developing communication strategies for campaigns.
• Demonstrates effective public speaking, and is comfortable engaging with larger groups of people.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum five years’ experience in a union environment, political or community organizing preferred
• At least five months experience of organizing on strategic leverage campaigns preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of union structure, organizing principles, labor movement history, anti-union strategies, and labor law.
• Bilingual skills preferred.
• Must possess a valid US driver’s license.

Teamsters Local 700 offers a generous total compensation package, with a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 (commensurate with experience.) Comprehensive health coverage including dental and vision, as well as a defined benefit pension plan all provided by the employer. A 401(k) plan with optional employee participation. Many other benefits including vacation & sick leave.
