We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Admissions Caseworker to join our Ramapo Ridge Admissions team. The Admissions Caseworker accepts "Intake" calls and processes them. Contacts insurance companies for precertification re: benefits. Interviews incoming psychiatric patients and/or his/her representatives. Completes initial screening of patients and presents information to psychiatrist for approval. Coordinates admissions and on-site evaluations with assigned staff. Prepares all admission paperwork. Assigns patients to room (in consultation with nursing staff). The individual is competent to care for patients in the following age groups: adult (ages 18 - 64) and geriatric (ages 65 +). Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of Christian Health.

Competencies:

  • Covers and screens psychiatric admissions/intakes.
  • Coordinates on-site evaluations/assessments.
  • Consults with physicians, nursing, and others regarding admissions and intakes, as needed.
  • Coordinates admission times with unit staff.
  • Schedules all initial appointments.
  • Completes all preliminary admission/intake paperwork in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.
  • Accurately inputs admission/intake information into computer.
  • Checks insurance benefits coverage and insurance eligibility for service.
  • Secures necessary verification of patient's insurance.
  • Obtains and verifies pre-certification authorizing insurance coverage of desired service.
  • Prepares the following letters: Discharge, Change of Status, Notice of Hearing, Notice of Death.
  • Secures application for commitment.
  • Sends Physician Certificates, Application for Commitment and all appropriate papers to judge for review and decision.
  • Monitors Physician Certificate completion in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Six to twelve months of admissions experience preferred but not required.
  • Computer experience (preferably Microsoft Word and Excel) and data entry systems required.
  • Previous assessment and screening experience preferred.
  • Must be attentive to details and be very accurate.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm, must work one - two weekends a month, 10:00am - 6:00pm.

Education: BA/BS degree in psych/social work or related field required.
