Job Summary

The part-time Project Manager will play a critical role in bringing TransLash Media’s award-winning investigative project, the Anti-Trans Hate Machine, to life—from inception to launch—by coordinating across teams to ensure this essential journalism reaches its full impact.

The Anti-Trans Hate Machine pulls back the curtain on the anti-trans hate movement, revealing how today’s attacks on trans rights are central to a larger strategy to overturn democracy. The project’s biggest component is a documentary podcast hosted by TransLash Media founder and CEO, Imara Jones, a decorated journalist named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2023.

This role presents a unique opportunity to spearhead improvements in workflows, systems, and efficiencies while working alongside a dedicated team to produce journalism that shapes public discourse. Reporting to the Director of Podcasts and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Project Manager will ensure seamless collaboration across teams, keep the investigative project on track, and ensure a smooth, impactful launch of this yearly show.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Schedule and lead podcast and cross-functional meetings, including project kickoffs, working sessions, and project retrospectives.
- Document meetings, track decisions, and update project management systems accordingly.
- Collaborate across TransLash teams to plan and manage projects, timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with creative and technical requirements.
- Ensure deadlines are met, follow up with stakeholders, and address roadblocks proactively.
- Improve project management systems, enhance transparency, and establish structured workflows.
- Track production timelines and coordinate budget discussions with leadership.
- Support coordination with external partners and collaborators, particularly in the launch phase.
- Build and support others in building project plans and templates in Asana.
- Maintain visibility into project progress, regularly updating stakeholders on milestones and performance analytics.
- Ensure high levels of confidentiality and sensitivity in handling investigative content.
- Continuously assess and refine workflows and project management practices to optimize efficiency and quality.
- May assist with other TransLash initiatives as needed, contributing to the development of project management systems across the organization.

Education and Experience

- At least three years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in managing complex, fast-paced projects, is required.
- Experience managing multiple work streams, including production, operations, and marketing, is required, with preference given to candidates who have worked across multiple media formats, such as video, social media, and multimedia storytelling.
- Strong command of project management methodologies is required, with flexibility to adapt to different tools as needed.
- Experience in media production project management, particularly investigative journalism, documentary production, or long-form storytelling, is required.
- Prior experience in advocacy-focused or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
- Experience working in hybrid environments balancing nonprofit and private-sector demands is a plus.

- Experience facilitating diverse teams and ensuring accountability.
- Knowledge of Asana or other project management software.
- Ability to adapt to new platforms/tools as needed, is required.
- Ability to work independently while also fitting into a small, focused team.
- Proficiency with Slack and Google Suite is preferred.

Location

Remote within the United States, with core working hours aligned to Eastern Time.
