The main responsibilities of the Apprentice Mechanic is to provide maintenance support to production areas to ensure stable operations, and provide continuous improvement while promoting safe work practices for maintaining plant equipment. 
• Rebuild/replace pumps to maintain movement of intermediates and finished products.
• Install/replace piping to maintain movement of intermediates and finished products as well as utilities.
• Use laser alignment tools on rotating equipment to ensure proper shaft alignment.
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to determine repair process.
• Perform preventative/predictive maintenance, inspections, and repairs to reduce equipment failures.
• Determine whether an existing piece of equipment should be repaired or replaced.
• Perform general facility and equipment repairs as needed.
• Navigate CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) as well as write follow up work.
• Train with an experienced journeyman to augment first 6 months of apprentice program.
• Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations. 
• General housekeeping duties as assigned.
• Participate and maintain compliance related activities including internal and external audits for applicable standards and certifications such as ISO 9001:2015, EFfCI, FSSC 22000, Kosher, Halal, RSPO, ISCC+ and others.

 

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of mechanical experience or preferred education.
• Successfully pass mechanical aptitude test.
• Successfully complete 6 required maintenance apprenticeship courses within 3 years.
• Experience with pump disassembly and reassembly.
• Ability to analyse, problem solve, and think strategically to solve equipment issues and determine root cause failures. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent.
