Summary
The Program Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing quality programs for girl members. This individual will focus primarily on supporting program design and leading program delivery to support the girl experience in our youth and adult justice programs. They will actively promote and support the mission and goals of Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist in achieving the council’s membership and retention goals for girls through delivery of quality curricula, events, and additional resources as driven by community needs.
- Serve as primary program designer for justice partnership programs including Arizona State Prison Complex – Perryville, MCSO, Adobe Mountain School, Durango Juvenile Detention Center, and Pinal County Youth Justice Center.
- Support program recruitment and expansion efforts to increase program impact.
- Work collaboratively with GS Southern Arizona to design and facilitate joint programming for GSBB program at ASPC – Perryville.
- Partner with Program Coordinator in program development, staffing, and logistics for assigned program sites.
- Ensure the implementation of programs in accordance with the GSLE delivery model and adaptive to the needs of girls in diverse and underserved communities.
- Identify and implement program improvements to enable more effective and efficient achievement of girls’ needs and GSLE outcomes.
- Support communications between GS Impact families and community stakeholders.
- Strategize ways to best use technological platforms to provide an engaging Girl Scout experience when necessary.
- Plan and support additional events and opportunities for girls such as field trips and outings.
- Actively engage adult volunteers to assist with programs in various locations to engage families in Girl Scouts, when possible.
- Complete and maintain appropriate council training such as First Aid training, Troop Camp Certification, etc.
- Instruct volunteers and girls in established emergency procedures such as fire drills, site evacuation, etc.
- Ensure the maintenance of health and safety standards.
- Utilize technology to ensure the maintenance of all records.
- Provide safe transportation for girl members when necessary (Must be 21).
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Commitment to the aims and purposes of the Girl Scouts Movement, including belief in the importance of the volunteer organization in our society.
- Commitment to and understanding the importance of being a professional role model.
- Maintaining Girl Scout Adult membership during full term of employment.
- Attitude and behavior consistent with the core competencies, core values and beliefs of the organization.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the Girl Scout program.
- Demonstrated maturity, sound judgement, integrity, and flexibility; able to think and act calmly in a crisis.
- Ability to communicate effectively to work with both girls and adults who encompass the full spectrum of diversity.
- Ability to coordinate a multi-project workload, to exercise initiative and be an effective team leader/member.
- Successful experience in planning and implementing programs.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to provide documentation of a clean driving history.
- Must be able to pass multiple background checks and complete various site requirements based on partner’s needs.
- Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (provided).
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Education or Formal Training
- High school diploma, some college preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is a plus.
Experience
- Experience working in educational or recreational settings.
- Experience in behavioral health setting is a plus.
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds in diverse settings is a plus.
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
Physical Abilities
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds without difficulty
- Must be able to sit at a computer terminal up to three hours at a time; must be able to stand for one to 2-1/2 hours per day
