Job Description

A Step Up Academy (ASUA) is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Behavioral Programming to lead our comprehensive behavioral support initiatives in our flagship private special education school program. Position: Director of Behavioral Programming

Reports to: Director of Educational Programming

Status: 12 Month

Job Summary:

  • The Director of Behavioral Programming is an integral and supervising member of the ASUA staff and works as part of the Senior Team.
  • The Director of Behavioral Programming will work in a team-oriented environment and engage in a wide range of activities, focused on providing supervision to the team of behavior support and mental health providers at ASUA.
  • The Director of Behavioral Programming is responsible for providing professional leadership and management of behavior support staff in partnership with teaching staff, to enhance their effectiveness in order to achieve improved standards of learning and achievement in the school.
  • The Director of Behavioral Programming will supervise all behavioral support delivery of students through assessments (including functional analyses where appropriate), development of individualized behavior or crisis plans, collection of measures of performance, data analysis and presentation, and the ongoing evolution of the behavior plans.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Education in the area of Applied Behavior Analysis

Current BCBA certification

Minimum of 5 years of experience in field of behavioral support practice

Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy

  • Work with ASUA education and therapeutic team to conduct and/or oversee all behavior programming.
  • Oversee the implementation of behavior programs to ensure best Behavioral practices are always implemented and to ensure that performance measures are being met.
  • Plan for, manage, oversee, and participate in crisis management situations in accordance with ASUA and legal requirements.
  • Lead a team environment with a strong focus on culture.
  • Provide and manage supervision experience hours for BCaBA and BCBA candidates.
  • Demonstrates creativity and a “think outside the box” attitude to provide support and achieve positive outcomes for all students and staff.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of scientifically-validated assessments and intervention program and service delivery strategies found to benefit children with ASD; familiar with current related research findings.
  • Engage in planning and exploration of age-appropriate behavioral and therapeutic needs for all students, including transition planning and program development for students ages 14-22.
  • Familiarity and ability to administer and interpret a variety of Behavioral assessments (such as VBMAPP, AFLS, ABLLS, ADOS-2, etc.).
  • Display excellent Behavioral competence and judgment.
  • Assist in coordinating continuous improvement with progress monitoring systems
  • Ability to train and supervise instructional staff in the delivery of behavioral support services.
  • Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with staff, parents, and other caregivers; respect for cultural diversity and capability of adapting behavioral and therapeutic procedures to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor toileting plans; train and supervise staff regarding implementation of plans.
  • Strong leadership and management capabilities.
  • Plan and manage change in accordance with school development/strategic plan.
  • Contribute to oversight of the schedule for the program overall, and more specifically for social work and behavior-related needs and events.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; detail oriented.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to individual and family needs and requests; maintain confidentiality.

Financial Resource Management

  • Evaluate information and consult with the Head of School and Director of Finance to prepare a realistic and balanced budget for school activity.
  • Use agreed budget to actively monitor and control performance to achieve value for funds utilized.

Administration Management

  • Utilize administrative and support staff appropriately to assist with daily functioning of school.

Human Resource Management

  • Ensure staff have a clear understanding of the policies and procedures and the importance of putting them into practice.
  • Monitor the way policies and procedures are followed and provide support where necessary.
  • Ensure Behavioral quality standards by offering employee trainings and Behavioral knowledge and counsel to the instructional staff team.
  • Follow disciplinary procedures, as outlined in the ASUA Employee Handbook and in conjunction with the Head of School, and develop action plans for staff who are not performing at a satisfactory level.
  • Seek and make use of specialist expertise in relation to HR issues.

Facility and Property Management

  • Ensure the safe maintenance and security operation of all school premises.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To read and abide by the Employee Handbook including updates and changes.
  • To attend all mandatory meetings, including those that fall outside of regularly scheduled school hours and as described in the Employee Handbook.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required. Adequate vision and hearing ability for monitoring children’s verbal and non-verbal responses. Ability to provide a quality behavior model for students and staff.

Safety and Health:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

Knowledge of best practices regarding behavioral de-escalation and safety protocols.

Equipment/Material Handled:

The Director of Behavioral Programming shall be assigned a variety of evaluation and consulting materials which are to be appropriately stored and accounted for. All media resources and borrowed material are to be judiciously used, and are to be maintained in a reasonably unsoiled and non- damaged fashion. Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
