Auburn University Libraries seeks an innovative, enthusiastic, and user-focused individual to serve as the Collections Assessment Librarian (Assistant Professor). Reporting to the Head of Collections, Discovery, and Resource Sharing (CDR), the Collections Assessment Librarian is responsible for gathering and organizing information used in the assessment of library collections, including providing reports and analysis to help inform collection development strategy under the guidance of the Head of Collections, Discovery, and Resource Sharing (CDR) and in collaboration with the Collection Development Group and other stakeholders. The person in this position will take primary responsibility for managing electronic resources for alumni and contribute to overall electronic resources management. This position works closely with other personnel in the Collections Unit and the E-Resources Team within theCDRDepartment, as well as the interdepartmental Collection Development Group that includes all subject liaisons. This position also works with library vendors as needed. This twelve-month tenure-track position requires professional and scholarly activity as well as service on library and university committees.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Gather, organize, and document collections statistics for annual reports, as well as some internal and external assessment surveys
  • Assist and advise the Head of Collections, Discovery, and Resource Sharing (CDR) in collection analysis
  • Assist with the management of data about Auburn University's research output in research bibliometrics tools
  • Serve as a member of the E-Resources Team inCDR
  • Serve as a member of the Libraries' Collection Development Group that consists of all subject liaisons
  • May supervise exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Manage electronic resources for alumni access program, including developing and maintaining online information guides, providing communication and updates, and troubleshooting access problems in collaboration with the E-Resources Department and IT Department
  • Implement and populate an electronic resources management (ERM) system or comparable functionality within a library systems platform (LSP) in collaboration with the E-Resources Team
  • Assist with workflows supporting license agreements and contract renewals with both internal and external constituents
  • Assist with troubleshooting access issues for electronic resources in collaboration with the E-Resources Team
  • Develop policies, procedures, and other types of documentation as needed
  • Maintain current awareness of emerging trends and developments in collection analysis and assessment, as well electronic resources management

  • Investigate new technologies, tools, and best practices in electronic resources management and collection analysis
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned

SALARY / BENEFITS : Minimum salary of $60,000 for an Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. This is a twelve-month tenure-track position. Benefits include 20 days of vacation leave/12 days of sick leave per year; participation in State Teachers' Retirement System (mandatory); additional voluntary retirement plans available; health/dental/life/disability insurance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Library and Information Science degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution at the time of employment
  • Two years of experience in an academic library in acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resources management, acquisitions, or collection development
  • Knowledge of library tools and systems for electronic resources management or acquisitions
  • Knowledge of COUNTER, SUSHI, NISO and other standards and best practices related to gathering usage statistics for collection analysis
  • High-level understanding of metadata with respect to electronic resources management and discovery
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a flexible and adaptable attitude as well as a focus on customer service
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with COUNTER and SUSHI, NISO standards and other best practices for electronic resources statistics gathering and analysis
  • Knowledge of methods and best practices for collection development in research libraries
  • Knowledge of research bibliometrics tools, including Web of Science and Scopus
  • Experience working with electronic resources tools such as OpenURL resolvers, proxy systems, knowledge bases,ERM
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic resource access problems
  • Experience with use permissions and technical requirements of license agreements
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Record of scholarly and professional activity illustrating a desire to advance the profession, especially in technical services
